Oobah Butler takes on Amazon in his latest documentary

Oobah Butler has been making headlines (again) for his innovative and humorous approach to exposing systemic gaps in modern life. His work goes beyond typical pranks, and this time he has gone undercover to shed light on the labour and tax practices of the retail behemoth, Amazon.

The Trailer for ‘The Great Amazon Heist’ a documentary by Oobah Butler released in October 2023.

Oobah Butler is a creative force known for his innovative approach to exposing the absurdities of modern life and exploiting gaps in the system. While often labelled as an "internet prankster," his work transcends mere pranks, delving into deeper societal issues. Oobah first gained global acclaim through the creation of "The Shed at Dulwich," a fake restaurant that he turned into the city's top-rated restaurant on TripAdvisor. This project exposed the unreliability of platforms like TripAdvisor and highlighted the flaws in trust-building digital companies.

In his latest venture, "The Great Amazon Heist," released on Channel 4 on October 19th, 2023, Oobah takes on a giant, Amazon. Going undercover, he immerses himself in the daily experiences of the staff at their Coventry warehouse. What unfolds is a disturbing account of gruelling 10-hour shifts, oppressive heat, excessive pressure on drivers, and mistrustful security checks.

Oobah's knack for uncovering system vulnerabilities doesn't stop at the warehouse. He ingeniously lists urine on Amazon's website (and it also reaches number 1), while also navigating tax loopholes commonly exploited by Amazon. Additionally, he cleverly utilises Amazon’s own return system to repair potholes on British roads. However, this bold move is not without its risks, potentially landing him in hot (legal and criminal) oil.

In just 24 hours, "The Great Amazon Heist" has collected coverage from Wired, Vice, The Guardian, Telegraph, Independent, The Sun, The Metro, and numerous other press outlets and in only 5 days reached 2.5 billion people around the world.

In parallel to his groundbreaking documentaries, Oobah has authored "How To Bullsh*t Your Way To Number 1: An Unorthodox Guide To 21st Century Success," as a way to reveal the shortcomings of the publishing industry [This documentary is soon to be released].

Oobah Butler's creativity has collected a series of awards, including The Drum's Content Creator of the Year, Best Use of Video (Category: Weird) at The Webbys, Video Project of the Year at the British Media Awards, and The Best Content Idea at the British Society of Magazine Editors Talent Awards.

His wit and humour have become invaluable tools in his mission to uncover the intricacies of modern life. Beyond just entertainment, Oobah's work carries a profound message. It serves as a critique of the digital age, revealing the complexities within our society. His ingenious tactics not only captivate audiences but also compel them to confront deeper societal issues.
