LUCY MCRAE

Body Architect, TED Speaker & Fellow, Filmmaker, Storyteller

Lucy McRae, Body Architect

London based but Australian born, Lucy McRae is a former classical ballerina who then trained in interior design. An artist and film maker who straddles the worlds of fashion, technology and the body, her work is inherently fascinated with the relationship between the body, technology and the grey areas of synthetic and organic materials.

She invents playful, imaginary worlds underpinned by technology to create portals of possibility that provoke the way people approach the future. These provocative and often grotesquely beautiful imagery explore the connective tissue between science and imagination.

Listed by Fast Company as one of 50 designers shaping the future

McRae staked her claim as the world’s premier Body Architect during her formative years at Philips Design. Working in this far future design research lab she developed stretchable electronics, an electronic tattoo and a range of emotional sensing dresses that were awarded Time’s Best Fashion Invention. This new field in design uses the body as an interface for storytelling to catalyse innovation and transformational shifts within the arts, beauty, and the sciences.

Featured as the next big name in innovation for 2016 by Wired magazine and Intel

In 2012 McRae was invited to join the TED Fellowship programme and spoke at TED Long Beach on How Technology will Transform the Body, which has had 1,300,000 views and counting.

A keynote speaker, McRae is invited to speak around the world and brands rely upon her artistic lens for the future of technology coupled with the new opportunities that she can bring.
